The sixth year of the TAFF mentoring program for women has just started at TÜV Rheinland. Never before have there been so many female applicants for this program.
On the one hand, this shows that mentoring is becoming better known and more popular, but on the other hand it also shows that the concept is well received by superiors and unsolicited applicants – not only because of the successes in the previous years and the constant optimizations by the responsible personnel development
I am very happy to once again be a mentor to a mentee for one year, to share my experiences and to support her on her professional way.
TAFF – the Mentoring Program for Women
TAFF Mentoring is one of several mentoring programs at TÜV Rheinland. TAFF stands for TÜV Rheinland Mentoring Angebot für künftige Fach- und Führungsfrauen (TÜV Rheinland mentoring offer for future specialists and managers). It is aimed specifically at female colleagues in order to increase women’s interest in specialist and management careers and actively promote their professional development within the TÜV Rheinland corporate group. Through TAFF, we also make potential female managers more visible in the company. And it is one of many building blocks that enable us to systematically increase the proportion of women in management.
The Mentoring Program provides you with many methods and tools to make the collaboration between mentee and mentor successful. For example, the assessment of competence or location, “telling stories” or shadowing, which I definitely want to try out. Regular personal meetings at least every four to six weeks should take place between mentee and mentor. In addition, there will be experience exchange meetings both for the mentees and for the mentors.
Opportunities for further development for everyone
The recent kick-off event with all the mentees and mentors once again showed me how diverse and multifaceted TÜV Rheinland is. Participants from all business areas were represented. This not only enables the mentees to develop personally, but also creates a network across the entire company. In addition, everyone gets an insight into everyday working life and the range of services on offer beyond their own horizons. An invaluable asset, especially in an international corporation, to enable business synergies and to reinvent and network oneself again and again.
At the beginning of the mentoring, I discuss with my mentee her target definition. For me, knowing and understanding the mentee’s motivation is the basic prerequisite for successful mentoring. Basically, TAFF offers a lot of freedom and a large scope for the tandems to design the mentoring according to their personal goals and circumstances.
Great teams and the chemistry is right
A tandem is the team consisting of mentor and mentee. The “matching” of the tandems is organised by the colleagues from Personnel Development. Mentees and mentors receive a profile sheet which the interested mentees and potential mentors fill out. Based on this, individual interviews are conducted. Both mentee and mentor must agree to the matching after a first personal meeting and sign a mutual confidentiality agreement.
From my experience, I can only say that matching has always been a bull’s eye! A sign of how intensively personnel development deals with applicants and mentors. A quality criterion for the program and absolutely important for me as a mentor. Mentoring is of course a personal investment – primarily in time. The personal added value is much higher and can hardly be measured. For this reason alone, I think it’s great that TÜV Rheinland invests in its employees. We are a “Peoples Company” and know this value! 🙂
What I value about my employer
What I appreciate so much about working at TÜV Rheinland? No stagnation, always new opportunities to develop and reinvent yourself and your business. This creativity is not only encouraged by the newly created “Innovation Space” on the 18th floor overlooking Cologne and the Cologne Cathedral (For all Cologne readers☺).
I myself have been working for TÜV Rheinland for the second time for a total of seven years. That, too, is not a given for me – to be allowed to come back and wanting to come back☺.
By the way, hardly any other international company offers as many sustainable services in its portfolio as TÜV Rheinland. In times of climate change and social change, it is a well-established institution for which men and women like to work with a clear conscience.
In the next blog post I’ll tell you more about various development opportunities and give you tips for networking!
